New research shows that depression is often caused by an allergic reaction to inflammation in the body.  Tim de Chant iv Nova  wrote an interesting article on this and states:

“Inflammation is our immune system’s natural response to injuries, infections, or foreign compounds. When triggered, the body pumps various cells and proteins to the site through the blood stream, including cytokines, a class proteins that facilitate intercellular communication.  It also happens that people suffering from depression are loaded with cytokines.”

The major contributing factor to Inflammation is the food we eat.Treating the inflammatory symptoms depression beside the neurological ones could be an exciting new way in the fight against depression. Introducing anti-inflammatory nutrition patterns in patients with depression could improve symptoms, and also the chance a positive outcome for treatment. And – natural, healthy foods don’t require a prescription, and have no side effects.

Foods to avoid when you experience depression

Avoid sugar. Sugar causes inflammation in the body and also is cancer’s favorite food. Avoid processed and fast foods, theyten include massive amounts sugar and white flours, unhealthy fats, harmful food additives and chemicals and can contribute and worsen to inflammation and depression. Unregulated blood sugar levels are to be considered as well along with food allergies and sensitivities, such as gluten or daily sensitivity. Gut health has a direct link to depression and anxiety and it’s important to keep favorable bacteria in our micro-biome.

Add fermented foods to your eating plan. The microflora in fermented foods create a protective lining in our intestines making them anti-inflammatory. They lead to an antibodies and a stronger immune system and they regulate our appetite and reduce sugar cravings. Add fresh vegetables, especially dark leafy green, and fruits to your meal plan if you don’t eat them yet. Especially onions, Garlic, beans, Ginger and Omega-3 fats as found in salmon and flax seeds are very beneficial. Also, Turmeric is one the most effective anti-inflammatory foods available.
